Current Works

Excavation Works for Roundabout

Excavation began early in October 2009 to make way for construction of a new temporary roundabout at the Reid, Roe and Great Northern Highway intersection, in Caversham.

The temporary roundabout allowed traffic to continue flowing while the intersection is re-constructed with wider lanes and new traffic signals.

The temporary roundabout will be laid with asphalt to provide a smooth and safe driving surface for commuters.

Noise, dust and vibration

Residents near the highway are likely to notice noise, dust and vibration during construction work. Every possible action will be taken to minimise the impact, including the use of low-amplitude compactors to reduce vibration and regular watering down of the site to limit dust, particularly during earthworks.

Local vineyards have been consulted to identify ways of ensuring that dust does not affect grapes or wine production. Trucks hauling materials and equipment to and from the site will be kept off suburban streets where possible.

Property inspections

Macmahon has appointed an independent surveyor who is currently inspecting all homes, businesses and other premises within a 100m radius of the works. The inspections are used as a reference point when determining any damage claims that might be made as a result of construction activity.

Hours of work

Work will generally be restricted to Monday to Saturday between 7am and 5pm. In some cases, work may be required on Sundays, however, relevant approvals will be sought and affected residents, businesses and others will be notified in advance.

Traffic Management Plans

A Traffic Management Plan will be put in place to minimise disruption. Large signs and message boards will be erected at various points to inform road users about the nature and duration of the works.
