The day began with Earthworks Construction Manager Christian Joder accompanying Year 11 students on the tour.
Starting at the Road A Bridge, the tour moved along the alignment to the new Swan River Bridge, allowing students to see the road development from different angles.
At the west bank of the river, students inspected a purpose-built platform where a crane will position footings for the new Whiteman bridge. After learning about soil acidity, students ran their own tests with Environmental Manager Jeff Hallberg. The students tested different soil samples and demonstrated how, when combined with hydrogen peroxide, the results showed whether or not the material was safe for the environment.
“This part of the tour is always fun because it gives us a chance to interact with the students, and also for the students to interact with each other and participate in a real activity that we do in the field,” Jeff said.
