New traffic signals will replace the temporary roundabout at the busy intersection of the Reid, Roe and Great Northern Highways early in the New Year.

The temporary roundabout has enabled traffic to continue flowing while the intersection has been re-constructed with wider lanes and new pavements.

Community feedback has shown the temporary roundabout to be a popular alternative; however, traffic lights are known to be more efficient on extremely busy routes because they can be controlled externally.

Christian Joder, Earthworks Construction Manager for Macmahon, said: “The temporary roundabout has served its purpose,
allowing us to construct the intersection efficiently with minimal night works and traffic switches.”

He said drivers can expect traffic switches to continue throughout January and early February to allow the intersection upgrade to be finished. The area will become a hub of activity early in the New Year as crews move in build footpaths and islands, asphalt roads and install street lighting.
