Key Features
Several key features form an integral part of the Reid Highway extensions, designed to enhance the overall project. The project will better cater for expected increases in traffic in the future.
Some of the design elements include:
- Removal of the existing Whiteman Bridge and widening of the existing bridge over Jane Brook.
- Design and construction of the bridge over the Swan River.
- The design and construction of approximately 3km of highway.
- An underpass just east of Bandyup Prison to provide local access between north and south sides of the highway.
- Keeping Middle Swan Road as a local access road to the north of Reid Highway, west of the river.
- A new service road, on the south side to enable access on both sides of the highway.
- An upgrade of the Great Northern Highway intersection.
- Landscaping to maintain and improve the quality of local vegetation, ensuring habitat remains for native fauna.
- Widening of, and resurfacing of, associated roads and Great Northern Highway.
- Traffic signal modifications at intersections.
- Noise walls to reduce the impact of traffic noise.
- A new entry to Midland Brick, opposite the Viveash Street intersection.
- Lighting along the entire length of the highway extension.
- Site rehabilitation and soil conservation works.
